A catastrophic injury or illness not only leaves the body damaged, it also damages the mind and spirit. People have to find new ways of living, new ways of creating, and even new reasons for living. Art therapy helps some people find the creativity they need to recapture their lives.
Sadly, art therapy is not covered by insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. Those of us who have seen the healing power of art therapy financially support the work at Magee. We ask you to join us in asking insurance companies to cover the sessions and if you can, donate to ensure those who can find new lives through art therapy, get the services they need.

Daren Dieter Award
Daren was a visual artists working in different mediums when he became the victim of a violent crime and was left paralyzed from the neck down on a ventilator.
While at Magee, Daren used his art therapy sessions to learn how to unleash his creativity and rise above his physical limitations.
"My physical limitations can't limit my creativity" Daren would often say as he made the most of the Art Therapy offered at Magee.
His family sponsors the award in honor of Daren's efforts to overcome his physical limitations and with gratitude for how Magee's Art Therapy Program allowed Daren to learn to become an artist once again and helped him regain his soul.
